Shomrei Torah Synagogue is a vibrant Conservative congregation nestled against the foothills of the west San Fernando Valley. Our facility sits on 16 majestic acres of land along the scenic Valley Circle corridor. As a Jewish House of Worship, it is most significant that our address "7353" adds up to 18, representing "chai" or life. Our name, Shomrei Torah, translates from Hebrew to "Guardians of the Torah."
Our sanctuary and school buildings were designed by noted architects Robbins & Brown and received an American Institute of Architects Award of Merit for Design Excellence. Dedicated in June 1996, our facility provides the community with a house of worship, a place to study and a place to gather socially.
Our main building has a 350 seat sanctuary, 125 seat chapel and one of the largest social halls in the valley. Our sanctuary partitions open to allow us to hold all major holiday services in our own facility. The building features colorful stained glass windows, a raised stage and permanent dance floor. Both of our bimahs and the stage are handicap accessible by lifts or ramp. The main building also houses our administrative offices, bride's room, meat and dairy kitchens and a beautiful Judaica Gift Shop. Outside is the Star of David Jerusalem Garden and covered patio.
The doors of the sanctuary ark were designed to depict a theme of antiquity to contemporary times. Representations of the Old and New City of Jerusalem are carefully etched into the glass doors. History, prayer, education and government are all depicted in this truly beautiful creation. The brass crown above the doors holds the Eternal Light. The Hebrew letters become the Ner Tamid by spelling out the name of the congregation, with the letter yud becoming the eternal flame. The interior of the Ark holds the Torah scrolls on a spiral staircase ascending upward.
Our campus has two school buildings with secure, separated yards for age appropriate outdoor activiites. The classrooms are equipped with kitchenttes and interior restrooms and all classrooms interconnect. The Youth Lounge and a Judaic library are included in these buildings.
We welcome you to visit our community.
