Home Education Camp Etgar Discovery Zones

Themes & Discovery Zones

This summer, campers will investigate a variety of fun and engaging themes, but as always, the most exciting part of Camp Etgar is the way each classroom is magically transformed into a special zone for discovery.  Each age group follows a schedule allowing every camper to visit each of the Discovery Zones throughout the week.  Discovery Zones include:

  • Construction Zone: Play at different heights as well as in a 360 degree play space.  This zone is filled with blocks, legos, knex, tubes, poles, boards, boxes, cylinders, animals, people, trains, trucks, buses, cars, airplanes and track.  As children build together they learn to problem solve and cooperate.
  • Discovery Garden: We will cultivate the earth, pull weeds, plant seeds, water and use what we have grown over the summer for special snacks.  Campers learn what it takes to grow their own food and how important it is to take care of our earth.
  • Imagination Station: Campers love this theater-like atmosphere in which they can act out familiar roles from the world around them as well as use their imaginations to become anything they can imagine.  The themes in this room change weekly.
  • Science Lab: Campers will measure, graph, observe, balance, examine, create hypothesis, test them out and most importantly, make a mess!  Materials will be easily accessible to students so that they can experiment on their own, under adult supervision.
  • Art Studio: Using a large variety of art as well as collage and recycled materials, children will be able to express their individual ideas and feelings through art while exercising both their large and fine muscle groups.
  • Woodshop: Wood, nails, hammers, screw drivers, tape measure, pencils, clipboards, gloves, paint, glue and goggles are some of the materials campers will experiment with in this zone.
  • Soft Playroom: A bounce house and tons of oversized, movable, soft parts are provided for children to build, bounce and climb.
