Shomrei Torah Synagogue is a vibrant Conservative congregation nestled against the foothills of the western San Fernando Valley. We are a warm and caring community whose mission is to teach, challenge and support its members in all aspects of Jewish life. At Shomrei Torah Synagogue, we join together to nurture our Judaism and give meaning to our lives and the lives of others across the globe.
Our foundational principles are embodied in The Six Pillars of Shomrei Torah Synagogue, created by Rabbi Richard Camras. We are a community where families and friends gather to worship, learn, and celebrate together. We offer a spiritual home and a caring congregation that is dedicated to serving both members and the broader community through a variety of local, regional, national, and global initiatives.
We provide a diverse selection of religious services, programs, and educational opportunities, as well as social and cultural events. We provide a religious House of Worship for prayer, spiritual fulfillment, and Jewish life cycle events. Our Clergy counsel, educate, and instill Jewish values and tradition. Our Early Childhood Center and Religious School teach Jewish values & practices and provide educational opportunities for Judaic growth for our youth. Our community offers a Sisterhood, Men's Club, a HAZAK Seniors group, a USY Youth Department from 4th-12th grades, and Social Action initiatives to practice Tikkun Olam, Repairing Our World. Our Staff and Lay Leadership train and set examples to inspire and develop the next generation of involved and educated Jews.
We welcome you to our community and invite you to become a member.
Our History
In 1948, in the center of the San Fernando Valley, a group of Conservative Jewish families joined together and founded Temple Beth Ami. Meanwhile, further west in 1958, 25 families chartered the creation of Congregation Beth Kodesh in Canoga Park. Over the decades, the congregations established schools, youth groups, Sisterhoods, Men's Clubs and Senior Groups. Seeing a need for a Jewish Day School in the Valley, CBK founded Kadima Hebrew Academy in Woodland Hills. In 1994, Congregation Beth Kodesh and Temple Beth Ami merged to become Shomrei Torah Synagogue, and a new facility was built on Valley Circle Boulevard in West Hills.
