Shomrei Torah Synagogue Religious School immerses all students in a learner-directed environment focusing on experiential learning which takes place both in the classroom and in a camp environment. Religious School is a place to appreciate the fullness of Judaism and gain a strong Jewish identity while enveloped in our warm, caring community. We welcome your family to our community and look forward to becoming your partner in creating strong Jewish roots.
Religious School provides meaningful opportunities for young learners to access, explore and encounter Judaism in diverse, immersive and socially dynamic learning environments.
This mission is achieved through Jewish encounters in real time by providing camp days, Shabbat retreats and online platforms in which students build relationships with peers from partnering schools. Partnering schools benefit from the ability to share resources, provide full-time teaching positions, offer enhanced professional development and share a common curriculum.
Our innovative program utilizes multiple learning styles and modalities and provides Jewish learning and living in a variety of environments, such as camp, classrooms, kitchen and stage.
At the heart of our program is the STSRS Core Curriculum in which Project Based Learning is a key component. Students in each grade are empowered to engage in projects and fun activities throughout the school year. In addition to our core curriculum, students benefit from the opportunity to deepen friendships through experiencing Judaism in real time during our excursion days and Shabbat retreats. Foundational Hebrew language acquisition for our K-2nd grade students is provided via a language acquisition strategy in which students learn Hebrew by hearing and responding to Hebrew commands. 3rd – 7th Grade students will continue to build Hebrew reading liturgy fluency through dedicated Hebrew learning time.

Shomrei Torah Synagogue offers a variety of Shabbat programming centered around the youth of our JLC and their families. Led by our Rabbis and teen leaders, these services bring meaning to tefillot (prayers) through music, discussion, and interactive learning.
Our youngest students are introduced to Religous School on Sunday mornings from 9:30-12:00 pm. They encounter Judaism and Hebrew using all of their senses as the families of the Torah come to life and their own Jewish identities begin to emerge.
Sundays from 9:30-12:00 pm and Tuesdays from 4:00-6:30 pm, 2nd Grade students embark on a journey through the Jewish calendar, experiencing holidays and Hebrew Through Movement to strengthen their own Jewish identity.
What better way to learn about Shabbat than to experience a Shabbat together as friends? Several times throughout the year, 3rd-7th graders have the opportunity to share Shabbat together both at Camp Ramah and at their Jewish home away from home, Shomrei Torah Synagogue.
Students make friends from partnering synagogues as they enjoy a combination of Jewish educational programming and fun camp activities such as ropes course, horseback riding and Teva (nature).
Sundays from 9:30-12:00 pm and Tuesdays from 4:00-6:30 pm, 3rd-7th graders come together for learning and community. The emphasis is placed on building Hebrew reading skills, creating community through Tefillah, and reinforcing the foundation of Jewish living.
